For most of this week I have been fighting with obnoxious histamines from whatever the hell is in bloom in southern Arizona. Nothing is working to ease my symptoms and it’s pissing me off. I’ve avoided going anywhere because others would see me and think I was contagious. I look like crap.
Yesterday I had a small skin cancer removed from my left hand. Not a terribly deep lesion but now I have to be checked every six months. Damn.
I’ve been lax in my writing, stressed by all of this and wishing for escape. My one sweetness is Millie my beautiful German Shepherd. She seems to know I’m not myself. She curls up next to me on the couch or rests at my feet. She is very curious about the bandage on my hand. My baby puppy.
Poor hubby is having to look after himself. He’s stepped up and made his lunches, loaded the dishwasher, and been patient with me. I’m blessed.
Been a while since I’ve blogged and it’s my own fault. Did ya miss me? Just busy with humans, enjoying rare rainy weather, and figuring out who decided writing checks is still necessary.
If you go to the Fry’s grocery store the first Wednesday of every month you will encounter the last of the check writing generation. They have declared it old people shopping day, and half of them pay their bill by check!! They write out their check, flip through their check register and write in their check information like a good little bank account holder, then carefully rip out the check and hand it to the cashier who is obligated to look it over to make sure the digits are right, it is signed and then run it through the cash register to validate it.
Meanwhile I’ve had time to knit a scarf and read all the magazines.
We just got surround sound in our TV room so now as I watch a movie I get the real movie theater experience. Love the sub woofer best! This is good since I don’t go to movie theaters very often. Maybe once every four years. Sitting in a public movie theater is a yucky, disgusting experience for me. I feel like I’m covered in germs, the floor and seats are sticky, people are coughing, children are noisy, and you can read by the glow of cell phones. No thanks.
My daughter-in-law has taken on my theater disability as her personal project. God, I love her! Last Christmas she set up a trip to an amazing theater near their home in Lewisville, Texas. This place was brand new – check; had real food – check; alcohol – double check; and a wait staff – triple check. Saw the new Star Wars flick with my kids and after it was over we spent the hour after dissecting the story. Splendid.
Recently I’ve been reading a lot of books with coastal locales as the setting for each of them. Even though my home here in Catalina is nice, I really miss the ocean.
I have lots of grass, trees, flowers, a fish pond, vines and shrubs-most of it not representing the desert in any way. If I could afford it I would at least have a pool at my house. Water.
If I had to pick between never seeing a mountain or an ocean I would have to choose the mountain. Put mountains and ocean together and I could work with that! I’m pretty sure I could never live without seeing the ocean.
I’m using my new toy. A Samsung tablet. It’s taking a bit of time to get used to it but it is a nice bit of fun. It’s sort of like a phone, but its not. I’m not expecting to replace my laptop with it. It is more to replace my Kindle which is starting to get a bit weird. So here we go breaking it’s blog cherry!!
I’m sitting on the back porch with my coffee, listening to the birds being noisy eaters as they swarm the feeders as I enjoy a few minutes of cool morning air.
A hummingbird is guarding the feeder from his spot in a nearby tree, so the wife can eat. We’ve had so much rain there are mosquitoes around. No sitting outside in shorts!
I’ve finished checking my historical manuscript and now it’s time to put in the corrections. I have four rewrites including a scene I had to cut and start over. It is also directly related to another part of the story so some continuity checks are in order.
I’ve been keeping a notebook and pen by my bed recently since I’ve had several ideas popping up at night. Some for my contemporary story and some brand new things. Love when stuff just shows up.
Millie is patrolling and I need more coffee so I’m handing this blog off to you fine followers.
It was 5:50 am and I heard what I thought was a truck rumbling by, but that made no sense to me. Millie scratched on the screen door telling me to get my butt up and let her out. Then I heard it again. Was that thunder? Interesting.
Millie went out, and did her thing. I lay back down and started to doze off.
At the screen door scratching around 6:30 I got up to let her back in and realized it was sprinkling. Hallelujah! Rain to start a Tuesday morning. Filled my coffee, grabbed my phone and headed to the back porch to enjoy the rain. Then it really started to rain, a full fledged rain shower. I looked to the north and there was a thick, wide rain shaft with low clouds that appeared to be moving my way.
See me smile and sigh.
Chuck joined me with his coffee and we watched as the storm came near. Then boom! That was close. A few minutes later a brilliant lightning bolt struck very close, like 1/4 mile away with an instant, shocking BOOM! The wind started to pick up testifying the storm was here. The temps dropped fast and we sat enjoying the show as small hail mixed with rain fell.
Abruptly, suddenly, quickly, immediately – pick and adverb – the wind shifted and got stronger, blowing rain and hail straight at us, hail was landing in our laps, tables, chairs and on Millie. We jumped up, gathering our things and hurried inside with Millie leading the way.
It was awesome!
Now, a few hours later it is still over cast with thick clouds, with an occasional sprinkle and the rumble of distant thunder.
Last night my sister told me the reblog button is not showing up on my posts. I hadn’t realized this was occurring. Has anyone else had this happen? I recently changed my theme and now I’m concerned this has created a problem.
I’ve made contact with the WordPress mother ship and hope to have an answer.
In the mean time I am making progress on two-count ’em-two stories. My historical romance is coming along splendidly. I hope to finish second draft edits the end of this week, then I send it to my beta-readers. The second one is a contemporary fiction and I am currently at 12k words. Believe it or not, I’m having fun bouncing between the two of them.
I am so excited to tell every one that my baby sister has started her own blog! gammyjoy.wordpress.com. Give her blog a look and a follow, please. I am so proud of her jumping into the blogging universe.
Tropical storm Javier may bring us some heavy rain this week!! Whoopee, that makes me a very happy woman. My woman cave is messed up while I do a lot of sorting and tossing. It’s funny because when I do this to a room, closet, etc., it seems to do the same thing for my mind.
I have been looking for some part time work to supplement hubby’s income.
I am pleased to share I have actually been paid some royalties these last four months!
